For the Gazette

STEVENS POINT — Moose Lodge #1572 was granted a charter on June 24, 1918. In recognition of its centennial, the Lodge kicked off a year long celebration on June 23, 2018.
The celebration will continue until June 19, 2019, which marks the centennial of the Women of the Moose, Chapter #311, granted a charter on June 19,1919. The Lodge was eventually designated Moose Family Center #1572 about 1990.
Part of the celebration included a couple regularly scheduled events. Over the the Fourth of July weekend, the Family Center participated in the Riverfront Rendezvous. Hamburgers, cheeseburgers, french fries and Polish sausages were sold to hungry Riverfront Rendezvous attendants. Proceeds from their sales help maintain the Lodge Home.
Throughout the year, various charitable and community donations are made with funds from monthly or quarterly fundraisers held at the lodge. A recent donation was made to the Stevens Point Police Department K-9 Unit by the Women of the Moose and over $1000 was donated to the YMCA Project Graduation and to Children’s Miracle Network by the Loyal Order of Moose.
On the Fourth of July the Family Center sponsored a float in the parade held downtown Stevens Point. Rambler Moose was on hand to wave to the crowd, especially the children. Rambler very much appreciated their attention and yells of “Moose! Moose!”.
The Loyal Order of Moose is a fraternal and service organization which depends on volunteers from within their organization and from the local area in order to have a positive impact on their communities.
Other activities are planned for the rest of the year as the 100 Year commemoration continues. In the coming months the lodge and chapter will be hosting a Hospice fundraiser and a “Back to School” event that teaches kids personal and fire safety. “Back to School” provides Moose family’s children school supplies and may also include children in need from our county.
We have re-dedicated ourselves to the community during our centennial year and beyond.
