Market on Strongs gives away over 50 watermelons at Discover Downtown event

STEVENS POINT — Of all things to bring people downtown for last weekend’s Discover Downtown event, watermelons were a key draw.
Market on Strongs is a year-round farmers market, locally owned and operated. According to Marketing Director Amanda Frances, the market partners with over 150 different Wisconsin businesses to bring a unique buying experience for Stevens Point residents. For last weekend’s event, owners Sara and Larry Raikowski wanted to “bring back the spirit of the original crazy days” with something fun, and a little crazy.
“As another way to support our local economy, we purchased a pallet full of watermelons from farmers in the area, and were able to give one to each of the 55 first customers who made a purchase at our store” said Sara Raikowski. The melons averaged 15 pounds a piece, and customers could be seen carrying them all over the popular Discover Downtown event.
“We really took a gamble on buying this many melons, but the smiles on people’s faces made it all worth it!”
